The website is hosted by Netlify. Like any web host, Netlify automatically processes technical data such as your IP address and request details in server logs in order to deliver the site securely.
We use PostHog to understand how visitors use the website so that we can improve it. Analytics requests are proxied through our own domain. When you first visit, we ask about cookies:
Until you choose, and if you choose “Without cookies”, usage is counted only in anonymous, aggregate form (on the basis of our legitimate interest): nothing is stored on your device and you cannot be recognised across visits. We also use a small functional cookie to remember your language and your cookie choice; these are necessary for the site to work and are not used for tracking.
You can change your choice at any time, or turn analytics off entirely so that nothing is collected at all, not even anonymously:
When you use the contact form, your name, email address and message are submitted through Netlify Forms and emailed to us so that we can reply. The form is protected against spam by Google reCAPTCHA, provided through Netlify, which may set cookies and process data (including your IP address) under Google’s privacy policy.
If you sign up for our newsletter, your name and email address are processed by Mailchimp (Intuit) to send you our updates. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in every email. Our news page also embeds an archive of past newsletters from Mailchimp; loading it shares your IP address with Mailchimp.
Online donations are processed by Stripe. When you donate you are redirected to Stripe, where your name, email address, payment details and (for recurring donations) billing address are handled directly by Stripe. We never see or store your card details. You may also donate by bank transfer, in which case your bank handles the transaction.
Some pages load content from third parties. When they do, those providers may receive your IP address and set their own cookies:
youtube-nocookie.com): an introduction video.The map on the contact page is not one of them. It is a drawing built from OpenStreetMap data and served from this site, so the map itself requests nothing and sets no cookies.
Some of these providers (such as Google, Stripe, Mailchimp and Netlify) are based outside the European Union, primarily in the United States. Where your data is transferred there, it is protected by appropriate safeguards such as the providers’ standard contractual clauses.
Under the GDPR you have the right to access, rectify, erase, restrict or object to the processing of your personal data, and the right to data portability.
